Happy Father's Day & Missing Tooth

Happy Father's Day Paul, and to both our daddies and all Dad's out there! We got Paul two t shirts which is what he wanted. I had gotten him a Cardinals t-shirt for Christmas but it was too small. So... Merry Christmas to me! So now he has a better shirt and also an AC/DC t-shirt. The boys went to our friends' vacation bible school that night so we went out to eat. Later that night, Andrew lost his very first tooth!!!!! It practically fell out. He is not like Adam at all. Adam would go to a mirror and wiggle it til it came out, but Andrew is , how shall I say, too wimpy, for that. The Tooth Fairy brought $5 for that tooth. I don't know about you, but I am gonna start pulling teeth! He didn't get to enjoy it long though, b/c he got a virus and was up throwing up most of the night. He kept saying, "it's b/c of my tooth! I want it back in." Too funny.

Camping at Jellystone

We decided it was time to take the boys camping--real camping, like in a tent!! We have stayed at Grandpa Jerry's trailer and Steve's trailer by Nolin Lake, but we wanted to give this a try. We stayed at Jellystone Park, near Mammoth Cave. It was a good weekend, but let's just say it was HOT!! Luckily on Saturday, Steve and his family came to visit and we went for a cave tour at Mammoth Cave! 54 degrees--a little chilly, but out of the 94 degree humid weather! It rained for about half an hour friday night, but not really hard. I made breakfast in the morning, and I'll have to say, it has been a long time since I have sweated making breakfast!! By afternoon, our site was in the shade, but I took the boys swimming anyway. When you stay at Jellystone, you have access to a pool (very crowded), a 300 ft water slide which was great, and 18 hole putt-putt golf. Paul made us a campfire both nights. Not that we needed the heat, but you have to have a campfire if you are camping!!!! Saturday night, we were all tired from the 2 hr cave tour, the heat, and lots of swimming. Paul went to the showers, and I was getting the sleeping bags ready, but when I came out of the tent, here was Andrew asleep on top of the picnic table! He was so cute--guess he was really tired.

Butterfly Garden

Have you all seen those advertisements for the Butterfly Garden on TV? Well, we found it at the Learning Railroad, an educational store here in Paducah. The "garden" , which is just the net, comes in the box, and you have to send off for the butterfly larvae. You get 5 worms in a big cup and after a week, they crawl to the top, and form their chrysalid (cocoon). Only 2 of ours lived, but after 5 days they climbed to the top, then after 7 days, they hatched into Painted Lady butterflies. Here are the boys getting them out of the net to set them free. This took a lot for Andrew to even touch a butterfly, b/c he doesn't like to touch worms, or frogs, or anything like his brother does. We put flowers with sugarwater on them and oranges in the bottom of the garden for 2 days then set them free. They were beautiful and the boys liked to watch how they changed and loved it when they hatched!

Jacob's confirmation

This past Sunday, Paul's godson, Jacob, got confirmed back in Missouri. We were very proud of him. We had a good visit with the Petitt's then went to my parents' house with some pizza and visited with them for a couple of hours. The good thing about summer is that we don't have to be home early, so we drove late in the evening and the kids fell asleep on the way home. So, congratulations Jacob, and we hope you make good choices and take this seriously.

Get Together with Friends

Last Friday we had a get together over at Carol's house for a celebratory graduation party for Paula and Melanie. Paula received her Master's degree in May and Melanie will receive her Master's degree in July from University of Southern Indiana, Evansville, the same place I received mine. I remember getting done with mine, and it is quite a relief and an accomplishment! So congratulations to both of you girls. Here is Paula (with white shirt) and me, and then Carol and I. I miss working with Carol b/c we always had a good time and worked hard. Carol also had two boys and Paula has 3 boys so we always had a lot in common. Paula is interviewing for a teaching position at the college so I gave her a shirt and told her I was rooting for her!

Memorial Weekend

This weekend we started with a trip to Nolin Lake to visit the Hodges'. The boys got to give Cole all their attention and play with him b/c unfortunately their buddy Brian couldn't come along. Cole is almost 3 now and Adam was the "biggest boy" there! He did a great job being the big boy and playing with Cole. We had a great weekend. We fished Saturday night, slept in Sunday and then went swimming in the lake for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I couldn't believe it was warm enough to actually swim in the lake--usually it's still too cool on Memorial weekend. Steve and Paul limited out both nights with white bass, so here is a picture of them cleaning fish---b/c as they put it, they only fish to provide for the family! Somehow, I think there is more to it than that.
While swimming, Adam and Andrew worked on building a fort with rocks. Here is Adam, just whistling while he works, like he does when he's having a good time. Thanks Steve and Tara, we had a great weekend. See you soon when we go to Mammoth Cave.
