Rain Gutter Regatta

Monday night Andrew had his first Cub Scout outing. We went Mike Miller Park for the Rain Gutter Regatta. Not being from a family of scouts, I had no idea what this was all about. But it was pretty cool for the kids. When we got there, Andrew sat next to his buddy Cameron and they make these "boats" out of styrofoam, a wooden dowel, and a coffee filter for a sail. When all the kids were done, they had 4 rain gutters full of water sitting on the picnic tables. So, 2 by 2 they faced off. They had to blow their boats with a straw but you couldn't push your boat with your straw, just good old fashioned hot air! Then the winners faced off . Andrew won against his opponent, then he won again against all his cub scout group, then he was in the championship round against a boy scout who was in the 4th or 5th grade. You could feel the tension (not really), Andrew's legs were like jello and were kind of "shakey". They called go, and BAM!!!! andrew blew his boat and beat that big boy by 2-3 inches. Wow, what a moment! We had one proud little boy, and we were very proud of him too. Paul said Andrew had a talent, we're not for sure how he is going to use it, but we're proud of him anyway. Andrew received two ribbons, one for first place in his pack, then one for the overall winner! Then everyone got to enjoy ice cream .
